Copyright & Takedown Policy
Last updated: April 30, 2026
1. Our Position on Intellectual Property
TryGetBill respects the intellectual property rights of others and expects users of the Service to do the same. TryGetBill operates as an intermediary under Section 2(1)(w) of the Information Technology Act, 2000, and we provide the framework, tools, and infrastructure for users to create invoices, share payment links, and (through the TryGetBill PayLock™ free tool) temporarily host files of their own creation. We do not claim ownership of user-generated content.
If you believe that any content hosted, transmitted, or made available through TryGetBill (including files uploaded via the TryGetBill PayLock™ free tool, invoice content, blog posts, or any other material) infringes your copyright, trademark, or other intellectual property rights, you may submit a takedown notice as described in this policy.
2. Statutory Basis
This policy is published in compliance with:
- The Indian Copyright Act, 1957 (specifically Section 52(1)(c) for transient or incidental storage by intermediaries)
- The Information Technology Act, 2000 (specifically Section 79 governing intermediary safe harbor)
- The Information Technology (Intermediary Guidelines and Digital Media Ethics Code) Rules, 2021 (specifically Rule 3(1)(d) requiring intermediaries to remove unlawful content within 36 hours of receipt of a court order or notification by an appropriate government agency, and within 24 hours for content involving sexually explicit material)
- The Trade Marks Act, 1999 (for trademark-related complaints)
- International norms including the United States Digital Millennium Copyright Act (DMCA), to the extent applicable to international rightsholders
3. Submitting a Takedown Notice
To submit a takedown notice, send an email to grievance@trygetbill.com with the subject line beginning "Copyright Takedown Notice" or "IP Takedown Notice".
Your notice must contain all of the following information. Incomplete notices will be rejected and you will be asked to resubmit with the missing information.
- Identification of the rightsholder: Your full legal name, address, telephone number, and email address. If you are an authorized agent, the name and address of the rightsholder you represent and a statement of your authority to act.
- Identification of the protected work: A clear description of the copyrighted work, trademark, or other right that you claim has been infringed, including any registration number or proof of ownership where available.
- Identification of the allegedly infringing content: The exact URL(s), session ID(s), invoice ID(s), or other specific location(s) on TryGetBill where the allegedly infringing material is located. General references such as "everywhere on your site" are not sufficient.
- Good-faith statement: A statement that you have a good-faith belief that the use of the material is not authorized by the rightsholder, its agent, or the law.
- Accuracy and authority statement: A statement, made under penalty of perjury, that the information in the notice is accurate and that you are the rightsholder or authorized to act on behalf of the rightsholder.
- Signature: A physical or electronic signature of the rightsholder or authorized agent.
- Jurisdiction consent: A statement that you consent to the jurisdiction of the courts at YSR Kadapa District, Andhra Pradesh, India, for any matter arising from your notice.
4. Our Response Timelines
- Acknowledgment: Within 24 hours of receiving a complete notice, we will acknowledge receipt by email.
- Action on valid notices: Within 36 hours of receipt of a valid court order or notification by an appropriate government agency identifying unlawful content, we will disable access to that content, in compliance with Rule 3(1)(d) of the IT Rules, 2021.
- Action on private rightsholder notices: Where a notice is submitted by a private rightsholder (without a court order), we will review the notice in good faith and, if it is facially valid, disable access to the identified content within a reasonable time, typically 7 working days, while we contact the affected user.
- Sexually explicit material involving non-consent: Within 24 hours of a complaint identifying content of a sexual nature distributed without consent, we will disable access to that content, in compliance with Rule 3(2)(b) of the IT Rules, 2021.
5. Notification to the Affected User
When we receive a takedown notice and decide to disable access to content, we will, where reasonably possible, notify the user who uploaded or posted the content of the takedown and provide them with a copy of the notice (with your contact details visible). This is to allow them to submit a counter-notice if they believe the takedown was in error.
For users of the TryGetBill PayLock™ free tool, where the user is anonymous (only an email address is on record), we will notify them at the email address provided at upload.
6. Counter-Notice Procedure
If you are a user whose content has been removed and you believe the removal was in error or that you have the right to use the material, you may submit a counter-notice to grievance@trygetbill.com with the subject line "Counter-Notice: [original session ID or URL]".
A counter-notice must contain:
- Your full legal name, address, telephone number, and email address
- Identification of the content that was removed and the location where it appeared before removal
- A statement, under penalty of perjury, that you have a good-faith belief that the content was removed as a result of mistake or misidentification
- A statement that you consent to the jurisdiction of the courts at YSR Kadapa District, Andhra Pradesh, India
- Your physical or electronic signature
On receipt of a valid counter-notice, we will forward a copy to the original complainant. If the original complainant does not initiate legal proceedings within 10 working days, we may, in our reasonable discretion, restore the content. We are not obligated to restore content where doing so would expose TryGetBill to legal risk.
7. Repeat Infringer Policy
TryGetBill maintains a strict repeat infringer policy. Users who are the subject of multiple valid takedown notices will face the following consequences:
- First valid takedown: Content removed; warning issued to the user.
- Second valid takedown: Content removed; account suspended for 30 days; user warned that further violations will result in permanent termination.
- Third valid takedown: Account permanently terminated; user is blacklisted from re-registration; for the TryGetBill PayLock™ free tool, the email address and IP-fingerprint are added to a denylist.
The above thresholds may be reduced at TryGetBill's reasonable discretion in cases of severe infringement (such as commercial-scale piracy, distribution of malware, or content involving minors), where immediate permanent termination may be applied on the first incident.
8. False or Abusive Notices
Submitting a knowingly false, misleading, or abusive takedown notice is itself a violation of law and may expose you to liability under Section 199 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (false statements), Section 66 of the IT Act, 2000, and damages under Section 55 of the Copyright Act, 1957 for groundless threats.
TryGetBill reserves the right to forward abusive notices to the affected user, refuse to act on further notices from the same complainant, and pursue legal remedies for damages caused.
9. Designated Agent for Notices
Designated Agent for Copyright and Trademark Notices

10. Limitations
TryGetBill is an intermediary and not a publisher of user content. We do not actively monitor or pre-screen user uploads, invoices, or blog posts. We act on takedown notices in accordance with this policy and applicable law, and our compliance with this policy is intended to qualify TryGetBill for the safe harbor protections under Section 79 of the Information Technology Act, 2000.
Nothing in this policy shall be construed as an admission of liability or as a waiver of any rights or defenses available to TryGetBill under law.
